| Yusuf Islam 'won't sue over plagiarism' |
Acoustic guitar player Yusuf Islam has offered an olive branch to Coldplay by insisting he will not be suing them for plagiarism. He has recently suggested that the British band had lifted elements from one of his old songs in their hit record Viva La Vida. The song in question - Foreigner Suite - was released in 1973 when Islam was still known as Cat Stevens. However, the guitarist has insisted that he is not angry with Coldplay, as he does not believe they copied the song deliberately. "I have even copied myself without even knowing it," Islam commented. "I'll write down what I think is a good melody and realise it's the same as something I have already done." Coldplay - who have also notched up hits including In My Place, The Scientist and Yellow - are already facing a lawsuit over the Viva La Vida single. Electric guitar player Joe Satriani has alleged that the track includes elements of his song If I Could Fly. |
